New novella

This is old news by now (a week old, at best). And, unfortunately, it is now out of print. But I wanted to mention it here anyway for posterity’s sake.

My novella “Family” was published in the anthology MIA MOJA, edited by Michael McBride & Nate Southard. This volume celebrates Thunderstorm Books and is their 100th title. It was published under their Black Voltage imprint and it’s a beautiful volume bound in black leather with a gorgeous beaded imitation lizard skin paper serving as the end papers. It features nine original novellas and one reprint by the likes of Brian Keene, Nate Southard, Gene O’Neill, Mary SanGiovanni, Bryan Smith, Ronald Kelly, Kelli Owen, Shane McKenzie and Michael McBride. I understand it sold out within a day of going on sale. At some point, “Family” will be reprinted in an upcoming collection of my novellas (in both limited edition and regular trade paperback/ebook), but that won’t be for another year yet.

Sixty-Five Stirrup Iron Road

65-Stirrup_Iron_Road

When the biggest names in hardcore horror – Brian Keene, Edward Lee, Jack Ketchum, Bryan Smith, J.F. Gonzalez, Wrath James White, Nate Southard, Shane McKenzie, and Ryan Harding – join forces, what starts like a haunted house novel by the Marquis de Sade develops into a meta-deconstruction of hardcore horror and why we love sex and violence.

There is something seriously wrong with the house at Sixty-Five Stirrup Iron Road. Its history is awash with sadistic violence and fiendish sex. For generations the house has corrupted its inhabitants. Now Arrianne and Chuck have moved in, and the house is ready to hunt once more. But this time the house’s occupants won’t be the only targets. No one is safe – not the reader, not the authors, and not the horror genre itself…

Nine of the biggest names in horror fiction collaborate on a gore-and-sex-soaked novel with all proceeds benefiting modern master of crime and terror, Tom Piccirilli.

Note: J. F. Gonzalez contributed six chapters to this round-robin novel-length project, with four of those chapters in collaboration with Edward Lee, Brian Keene, Jack Ketchum, and Nate Southard.

The trade paperback can be purchased here; the eBook can be found here. The signed limited edition from Sinister Grin Press will be out soon.

Ebook sale

From now until probably after the Christmas Holidays (Jan 2, 2014 or so), I’m running a sale on the eBook editions of the titles in which I control the rights. Shapeshifter, The Corporation, and When the Darkness Falls have all been lowered to .99 cents. Bully, The Beloved, and They have been lowered to $1.99. Stock up on these (if you don’t have them already), and use the money you’ll save to purchase books from other publishers (Survivor, Primitive, It Drinks BloodBack From the Dead, The Summoning & Other Eldritch Tales, The Killings, Hero, and any of the four Clickers novels).

The following link provides a list of all my novels and includes links on where to purchase. Happy shopping!

The Downward Spiral

In 2006, my novella “In Step” was published in an anthology called The Downward Spiral that showcased four authors – myself, Wayne Allen Sallee, Gord Rollo, and Victor Heck. The book was published by Midnight Library, a now defunct small press that published probably about a dozen titles before ceasing operations. *

I have never reprinted “In Step” because I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. At the time I wrote it I didn’t think much of it. Those who read it seemed to like it, though, so I guess that makes up for my feelings for the story.

Anyway, while emptying out my rented storage space this past weekend in preparation for a serious downsizing, I came across a box containing about six copies of The Downward Spiral. Being that this book has been out of print for a number of years, I thought I would offer these copies for sale to whoever wants them. In addition to my novella, the anthology contains original stories by Wayne Allen Sallee (“Because He Can”, “Winnings” and three others), Gord Rollo (“All That Glitters” and two others), and Victor Heck (“Birthday Box” and five others; “Birthday Box” is one nasty piece that sticks with you, too). I’m selling these for $15, which includes s & h. Interested parties can contact me at jfgonzalez(at)jfgonzalez.com for more info.

*I should clarify that technically Midnight Library is still around. It’s a long story, but I acquired the press in late 2009. Originally I wanted to keep it going and perhaps publish a title or two a year. These days I’m using it primarily as a vehicle to publish my backlist. I would love to be able to publish a novel or short story collection from another writer at some point—I’ve always fantasized about dipping my toes back into publishing again. Maybe someday.

New Short Story Collection

I’ve been extremely busy the past week or so and neglected to update this site to inform you all that Thunderstorm Books has published a very limited edition of my new short story collection Screaming to Get Out & Other Wailings of the Damned.

I will be creating a special page for this book that will include the usual features like bibliographic material, table of contents, jacket copy, and cover artwork. In the meantime, you can click here to purchase your copy. This book is part of Thunderstorm’s Black Voltage line. The price is $75.00.

Fair warning: only 90 copies of this edition are offered for sale, and once they’re gone they’re gone.

Updated: Full information on this title, including a table of contents, can be found on this special page.

Lifetime Subscriptions – Redux

Two years ago I offered 10 lifetime subscription spots for $250 each. I have recently determined I can offer another 10 more after fielding inquiries from interested readers who have asked me if I am considering selling more subscriptions. With that in mind, here is the offer:

For a one-time fee of $250 you will receive one copy of every trade paperback, trade hardcover, or mass market book-length work (novel, collection), chapbook, graphic novel, or comic book I ever publish until you or I die or should either you or I become physically or mentally incapacitated due to age, accident, or illness (whichever comes first). In the event eBooks are made available to me, you will also receive the eBook version of the book in addition to the trade paperback, mass market paperback, or trade hardcover. Cover flats produced for promotional purposes are also included in the offer when they become available to me. There will be ten slots available. What will you get for your money? Here’s a taste:

Within the next three years no less than four books are scheduled to be released including Screaming to Get Out & Other Wailings of the Damned (a short story collection), Retreat (a novel), Up Jumped the Devil (a collection of four novellas), and an unwritten/untitled novel that will also serve as a sequel (of sorts) to an earlier novel, Survivor. In addition, four titles from my backlist are expected to be reissued within this time period in corrected, definitive editions. I’m 86 pages into a new novel called The Crossroads, which means there is the possibility it could be published within this time period as well. There have been talks with a publisher about compiling a collection of my non-fiction (primarily centered around my column “Shadows in the Attic”, currently appearing in Lamplight Magazine). There’s also other stuff in the years that follow—more novels in the Retreat series, stand-alone novels, more short story collections, a possible comic book series. In short, this is an offer that will provide you with a steady stream of my stuff for years and hopefully decades to come at a very low price.

But wait! There’s more!

Folks who join will be put on a special mailing list to receive news about new publications including novels, short story appearances, and anything else before the news is made available on my website or any of my social media channels. I’m also planning several freebies for the membership as well, everything from books from my own collection, to sneak-peak excerpts to works-in-progress.

Now for the disclaimers—Terms and Conditions: books will come flat-signed or personalized to you (whichever you prefer). This one time fee includes shipping and handling costs. This offer does not include limited editions, lettered editions, foreign editions, DVDs, audio-books, or other miscellaneous items. There are no international restrictions to this offer. This offer is open to anyone. Non-US residents must remit payment in the form of an international money order and must be payable in US currency. These lifetime subscriptions are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment must be rendered in full for the agreement to apply (to be fair, I cannot accept payment installments). Please provide an accurate mailing address, including an email address. If your physical or email address changes, you are responsible for notifying me of the change.

Email me a confirmation of your slot to jfgonzalez(at)jfgonzalez.com. I will respond with a confirmation and an address where to remit payment. I will hold your slot for ten (10) business days. If payment is not received by then, your slot will become available to another interested party.

Those who confirm their spots and remit payment before the end of the year will have the choice of receiving the trade paperback of the revised and author’s preferred version of When the Darkness Falls; this will be followed by the revised and author’s preferred version of Fetish. I should warn you that I am behind on my production schedule due to some unforseen personal circumstances that occurred earlier this year but I am working to catch up. The next new available titles will be the trade paperback edition of my forthcoming collection Screaming to Get Out & Other Wailings of the Damned, scheduled for March of 2014. My next novel, Retreat, will be published in late 2014 and Up Jumped the Devil will see publication in 2015. Salted in among all those releases will be reprints of my backlist in corrected and preferred editions; yes, you will get those, too (Primitive and Back From the Dead have gone out of print as trade paperbacks, so there is the possibility that once I have secured trade paperback reprint publication for them, they will be included in this reprint program).

There is no time limit on when this offer ends. The offer ends when all the slots are filled.
